It is pretty rolling countryside here in northern MD..Carroll County. We took the country route to a local winery, then to the Friendly Farm eatery …..family style, first such since we left NC too many years ago……full as a tick….
a fir has been restarted, and the chicken/vegetable soup has been placed back on the stove top…wood box is full; life is good.

It is a bitterly cold, but bright and sunny morning today. It was my turn for wood stove duties, shoveling out little red hot coals, ashes into the rusty greenish grey rusting 50 gallon trash can.
have you ever noticed that “healthy food” is located around the periphery of the store?

I listened in rapt attention to WAMU, 88.5fm this afternoon, to a show called, “Master Class”. It was hosted by IBMA’s Bluegrass DJ of 2011, Katy Daley.
It featured Some excellent First Generation Baltimore Bluegrass music, from really early Jack Cooke to Del McCoury, to Ola Belle Reed and Ralph Mayo. Among Katy’s guests were Tom Minty, Arnold Lee Dickens, Sr. and a couple of other folks…even a Mystery Guest!Plenty of sto-rhees, too
Yeah, the first generation, there is ONLY ONE….it is my mission on this blog to be a reminder of how important it is to honor the Roots…..to appreciate the Founding members, to NEVER forget their contributions to bluegrass music.
Call me a Mouldy Fig, and I am Proud to be a Moldy Fig….Eddie Stubbs is a lifelong member. Somebody has to remember, before the sands of time erase the memories of the people who paved the way for the rest of us.
Am I right here? Am I alone in this ? Mouldy Figs Unite!

Mountain Dew/Stanley Brothers/on NPR Leave a comment
WOW! Listening just now to the radio…Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me..on NPR….a story about someone finding a mouse in a can of Mt.Dew…to which a Mt.Dew Spokesperson said, “No way would you find a mouse inside the can; it would’ve dissolved by now!” OMG!!!!! Meanwhile the musical bedliner running underneath the story was the Stanley Brother’s version of Mountain Dew!!!!!!! COOL!!
